Concerned that UND has lost its edge in recent weeks, coach Dave Hakstol and his staff put the Sioux through a couple of grinding practices to start the week. “As Tom Brady and the New England Patriots say, they served us some humble pie,” Sioux captain Ryan Duncan said.
Ryan Duncan played in Ralph Engelstad Arena for the final time in his remarkable career Saturday night. He left the perfect lasting memory.
First, Duncan scored two goals and added an assist to lead UND to a 4-3 win over Michigan Tech, clinching the first-round Western Collegiate Hockey Association series and a spot at next week’s Final Five.
Then, the senior captain accepted the MacNaughton Cup from league commissioner Bruce McLeod in front of a roaring, sold out Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Ballots were handed out Wednesday for Western Collegiate Hockey Association awards voting. You won’t find Ryan Duncan’s name as a nominee for the league’s player of the year, but the UND senior may be as good of a choice as anybody.
