Fargo MeritCare officials Wednesday came out in support of North Dakota Sen. Kent Conrad’s stance against a public health insurance option tied to Medicare, saying such an option would damage rural health care providers.
A formal agreement signing late Friday said the two organizations will officially join forces Jan. 1. MeritCare Mayville clinic will move and be located at the hospital in a new addition to be built by late fall 2010.
A group of civic and business leaders is urging North Dakota’s MeritCare Health System to give more details a possible merger with South Dakota’s Sanford Health. Citizens for MeritCare, led by former Fargo Mayor Bruce Furness and former North Dakota first lady Jane Sinner, said it’s worried about reports that a letter of intent between the two groups would be signed in the next two weeks.
