Grand Forks area starts a kind-of new New Year's Eve tradition at the Alerus Center. Organizers said they think turn out's better this year after the move from downtown. The event used to be called First Night.
My suggestion, for what it is worth, is that First Night Committee consider moving the entire event to the Alerus Center. This would eliminate the need for shuttle buses, bundling and unbundling children and so on.
At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, organizers of First Night 2009 are inviting the public to talk about its ideas for re-energizing the annual alcohol- and tobacco-free New Year’s Eve party. In 2008, the 15th annual First Night attendance had shrunk to about 2,000.
