The city of Grand Forks wants to remind residents about the importance of keeping fire hydrants and emergency exits clear of debris, vehicles, bushes or other objects that may hide or hinder easy access.
Down in Bismarck, the fire department has been asking citizens to adopt a fire hydrant and clear the snow around it. When I asked Grand Forks Fire Chief Pete O’Neill about a need for adoption, he said he thinks they are all OK. Of course, the fire department asks that homeowners clear out the snow around fire hydrants.
The city of Bismarck has more than 4,000 fire hydrants, and many of them can become inaccessible due to snow. They need a little care, the city says.
