Joe Pittman, a special investigator for the North Dakota Insurance Department, collected information from a number of insurance investigators and found that from July 2008 to June 2010, the father and son were involved in 37 crashes — 27 for the father, Sead Mustafic, and 10 for his son, Senad Mustafic.
In setting the trial date, Cass County District Court Judge Frank Racek asked for assurances from the attorneys that it gives them enough time to prepare for a murder trial expected to last as long as two weeks.

A man has been convicted by a federal jury of threatening and assaulting a witness in a North Dakota drug conspiracy case. Justin Peterson, 25, Felton, Minn., was charged with retaliating against a witness. Authorities said the incident happened in September.

A malpractice lawsuit filed against MeritCare Medical Group by Fargo periodontist Philip Gattuso and his wife before they died is no longer set for trial in February. Attorneys for both sides want the custody battle for Gattuso’s 3-year-old daughter Kennedy resolved first.
The day after his wife’s funeral, Philip Gattuso’s mother-in-law gave him a one-page typed letter apparently signed by his wife. Dated 17 days before his wife, Valerie Gattuso, died March 30, the letter said Valerie wanted her sister, Regan Williams, to parent their toddler-aged daughter because she didn’t like how the Fargo dentist raised his sons from a prior marriage.
It marks the first North Dakota civil action against Brother Raimond Rose of the Christian Brothers of the Midwest, though five suits accusing him of sexual abuse are pending in Minnesota, and a California case was settled in 2003 out of court for $1.1 million.
