The Minnesota House voted to protect Red River Valley residents downstream from a proposed Fargo-Moorhead flood-prevention project, saying they should not face worse flooding just to protect the river’s largest metropolitan area.
The National Weather Service’s flood potential briefing for Polk County officials Wednesday didn’t offer much new, nor did it promise such. There were no updates of flooding probabilities throughout the Red River Valley from the initial ones made two weeks ago.
Grafton, N.D., officials here are applying this week for $31.5 million in federal funding for the proposed $42 million Park River Flood Control Project. If all goes as planned, the city will have a Park River diversion and tieback levee project completed by 2015.
