These photos were taken in Minot Thursday, most of them from the flood-ravaged Lowe’s Garden Center and Floral. It’s a decades-old, family-owned business (not to be confused with the corporate home improvement chain). Thanks to Allison Kay Steen of Fargo for sharing the photos with us.
It finally looks like summer is here to stay. With an extended forecast for 80s the rest of the week into next, any thoughts that we were going to miss out on nice weather can be forgotten. But with the warm weather comes the need to keep hydrated. And what better way than with cool drinks such as milkshakes, parfaits or smoothies that are loaded with fruit.
Just three years ago, the thought that western North Dakota would be experiencing historic floods in the near future would have been seen as unrealistic considering how dry that area was as seen with the Palmer Indexes in June 2008. Meterologist Daryl Ritchison of WDAZ and WDAY-TV and Radio writes in the Areavoices blog StormTracker about the events leading to this very wet year - and why we shouldn't be surprised.
