FACES: Raising reindeer is fun hobby for Drayton area man
The holiday season is a busy time at the Reindeer Ranch.
During December, ranch owner Vernon Hoselton makes appearances with his reindeer at yuletide events across North Dakota. This weekend, for example, Hoselton took Iggy and Chocolate, two of his does, to the Gateway Mall in Bismarck. Ollie, Panda and Norma, three other reindeer are at Santa Village at Rhealt Farm in Fargo.

ANN BAILEY: Keeps your pets safe this holiday season
Chocolate is a favorite at our house and during the holidays family members are sure to find it in a candy form in their Christmas stockings.
Because we know that chocolate, while OK for humans, is harmful to the three canines who reside with us, we are careful to keep it out of the kitchen where they spend their time when they’re in the house.

ANN BAILEY: Counting your blessings may take longer than you think
Being thankful, as I see it, is a gift we give to ourselves, to others and to God. It’s a gift to us because it helps us to see our blessings and to realize how much we have, instead of what we are lacking. As I tell my children, if they are constantly looking at what other kids have, they will never be satisfied because there always will be someone who has something that is bigger or better. “Be grateful for what you have” is my mantra.

Rae French wishes more University of Crookston students would leave the country.
That’s because part of French’s job at UMC is to coordinate UMC’s Learning Abroad program. About 25 UMC students annually travel overseas to places that include China, Norway and France, and French would like to see those numbers grow.

In Sharon Hasby’s workshop, ‘tis the season for chocolate — and for peanut butter, coconut and cappuccino, too. Hasby makes candy year-round, but has the biggest sales during the holiday season. Hasby sells a variety of candy, most of it some variation of chocolate, from her store/candy-making shop in St. Hilaire. She also sells it at craft shows in northwest Minnesota and northeast North Dakota and at the Kruse-Inn gas station and convenience store in St. Hilaire.
