Overabundant resident Canada geese present a giant dilemma 
North Dakota’s estimated Canada goose population this spring stood at a whopping 415,000 birds. That’s more than twice the 162,000 Canada geese tallied in the spring of 2000 and five times higher than the state Game and Fish Department’s management goal of 80,000 birds.

Minnesota DNR temporarily closes La Salle Lake State Recreational Area
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday it is evacuating and closing La Salle Lake State Recreation Area and is asking people to postpone day visits to Itasca State Park while crews work to clean up downed trees from Monday night’s severe storms in northwest Minnesota.

Flooding closes Jay Cooke State Park indefinitely
The Department of Natural Resources says a popular state park in northeastern Minnesota will stay closed indefinitely due to damage to Highway 210 caused by recent flooding. Minnesota Public Radio News reports that damage to Jay Cooke State Park was minimal, but its swing bridge over the St. Louis River was severely damaged.

Under the new laws, failure to remove a drain plug while transporting a watercraft will mean a $100 fine instead of a $50 penalty. The fine for unlawfully possessing and transporting prohibited AIS will increase from $250 to $500.
