UND FOOTBALL: UND 33, Southern Utah 29 
It hasn’t been a great season for the UND defense, which ranks 12th in the 13-team Big Sky Conference. So, there was reason for the defense to finally celebrate when it came up with one of its biggest stops of the season during UND’s 33-29 win against Southern Utah on Saturday at the Alerus Center.

As a freshman in 2009, UND center Ian McGurran walked onto the field in Lubbock, Texas, as he prepared to face Texas Tech of the Big 12. McGurran started that game in Texas and hasn’t missed a start since.

UND won’t renew contract of women’s soccer coach
The UND women’s soccer team finished its first season in the Big Sky Conference 0-9 in the league and 2-13-1 overall. Only a few days after the team’s final game of the season, the school has announced it will not renew the contract of head coach Kristen Gay.

UND FOOTBALL: Juco transfer Lewis makes impact in reeling secondary
At Los Medanons College, Will Lewis’ California junior college team didn’t win a game in 2011. Lewis, though, made 72 tackles, intercepted five passes and forced three fumbles. It was enough for UND defensive back coach Benny Boyd to pick up the phone and lure Lewis to Grand Forks.

UND wide receiver Jameer Jackson was among a trio of FCS freshman added to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List on Thursday, officials at The Sports Network announced. The Rice Award honors the national freshman of the year in the Football Championship Subdivision.
