Conferees agree on 2 percent potash mining tax 
North Dakota lawmakers have compromised on a plan to levy a 2 percent tax on potash mining. There are potash deposits in northwest North Dakota, and lawmakers have suggested tax rates ranging from 1.5 percent to 4 percent.

N.D. conferees agree on gambling tax cut for charities 
North Dakota lawmakers have agreed on a tax cut for charities that run gambling operations to raise money. Negotiators from the state House and Senate settled Thursday on a bill that replaces several gambling taxes with a 1 percent flat tax rate on wagers.

Fargo needed a new library. Grand Forks needs a new library. To pay for its new library, Fargo proposed a sales tax increase. Last week, Grand Forks’ mayor proposed a sales tax increase to pay for our new library.
In Fargo, the sales tax referendum passed with 62 percent of the vote.
In Grand Forks ,,, Will history repeat itself and lead to the decisive passage of a sales tax increase in Grand Forks?

A $300 million wind energy project north of Rugby has been finished. Iberdrola Renewables developed the wind farm, which includes 71 turbines and is capable of generating up to 149 megawatts of electricity. Construction first got started last year.

County officials in North Dakota are not of the same mind when it comes to accepting federal stimulus money to help pay for certain economic development projects. Grand Forks County commissioners have declared the county a “recovery zone,” opening the door to more than $30 million, while Burleigh County commissioners have decided against a recovery zone designation and $9 million.
