Stormy weather didn’t take a break for the holidays. New Year’s Eve in the Red River Valley was marked by closed roads, canceled events and hazardous traveling conditions caused by a Thursday blizzard — even as a second blizzard brought another round of heavy snowfall to the area Friday night.

Blizzard warning for Christmas Day through Saturday 
UPDATED 1:21 P.M.A blizzard warning for the Red River Valley has been issued from 6 a.m Christmas Day to noon Saturday. Snow accumulation still forecast to possibly be 12-24 inches in Grand Forks by Saturday. Air travel already being affected.

Winter storm disrupts traffic across Midwest 
UPDATED 1:15 P.M.The storm has already caused deaths in Kansas and Nebraska. Blizzard warnings have been issued for western North Dakota and northern Minnesota. No major problems reported at Chicago O'Hare.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation has opened both lanes of I-29 southbound south of Harwood, according to a release issued Friday. Floodwater over the roadway has receded.

Worst of the storm misses GF 
Several areas report more than 1 foot of snow Mother Nature brought heavy snow to much of eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota Tuesday, but Grand Forks and East Grand Forks missed the worst part of it. Grand Forks only received about 1 inch of snow with a moisture content of 0.08 inches during the day. Another 1 inch is expected during the night.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation has opened Interstate 29 from exit 69 (Cass County 20) to exit 100, south of Hillsboro, officials said today.
