Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. is asking North Dakota regulators for a 14 percent increase in its electric rates. The request would raise a typical residential customer’s electric bills by about $90 annually.

Some faculty at North Dakota State University want to create a list of students found guilty of cheating. Faculty who support the idea said they have no way of knowing if a student they are dealing with has a history of cheating elsewhere on campus. Nearly two-thirds of faculty who participated in a recent poll said they want NDSU to establish a registry for academic dishonesty.
A Dunseith man accused of killing one daughter and abusing another has reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors in which he will avoid life in prison. James Haggerty, 24, was indicted earlier on five charges including second-degree murder in the March death of his 3-month-old daughter. Authorities allege he threw, squeezed and shook the child. Haggerty later also was charged with abusing a 2-year-old daughter.
The fact is, the $100 million grant announced by the secretary was at least in part the product of that effort. That’s why Secretary Chu invited me to be at the event to announce the DOE’s participation.
