Fourteen Shrine organizations will be part of a two-hour parade in downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks that starts at 6:30 tonight.The event, which happens in this area only once every 14 years, will feature, among others, the signature Shrine clowns, motorcars and bagpipe performers.
With the team registration deadline for the seventh annual Dragon Boat Festival approaching Sunday, organizer Brian Bissonette is hoping teams will register soon to avoid the lowest turnout in the event’s history.
The Grand Forks Park District will host its annual Summerthing-Kids! event from 5 to 8 p.m. today and Thursday at University Park. This free artistic celebration for kids of all ages has a history of drawing thousands of residents from Grand Forks and the surrounding communities. The 16th annual Cavalier Motorcycle Ride-In, an event that began as a business promotion for a Harley Davidson line of jewelry and drew about 60 local motorcycles, will begin tonight in Cavalier, N.D., and is expected to draw thousands of people.
A fundraiser for the American Heart Association will be held at 5:30 Thursday afternoon in East Grand Forks’ O’Leary Park. The event, called Put Your Caboose to Use — Walk, Run, Bike or Blade, is put on by the Red River Runners.
Robert Treuer figures he has consumed his fair share of Red River water in the last six weeks. Treuer, 46, is one of about 10 competitors scheduled to swim in the Extreme North Dakota Watersports Endurance Test, a marathon down the Red River scheduled for July 21.
The 2012 Minnesota State Fair's commemorative poster features a red rooster as its centerpiece. Fair officials unveiled the poster Wednesday. Artist Joe Heffron's work in colored pencil features a rooster surrounded by other iconic elements of the Great Minnesota Get-Together such as a corndog and Fairchild the State Fair Gopher.
