UND women's basketball coach Gene Roebuck to retire after this season
Legendary women’s basketball coach Gene Roebuck, a 25-year veteran at UND, has announced he will retire at the end of this season. Roebuck, a native of Velva, N.D., transformed UND into one of the powerhouse programs of NCAA Division II — winning national titles in 1997, 1998 and 1999 — and has taken the school through a transition to Division I status.

Missed free throws have cost UND a win or two during its difficult transition to Division I basketball.In UND’s biggest home game since making the move to Division I, the Green and White hit their free throws down the stretch. As a result, a rarity took place at Ralph Engelstad Arena on Tuesday night as fans rushed the court after UND rallied to beat rival North Dakota State 59-54 before 7,169 fans.
