College chefs compete in 'Iron Chef'-style contest using flounder
A chef at UND and five other university chefs from around the region did battle Monday at an “Iron Chef”-style contest in Grand Forks’ Alerus Center.
Three certified judges and 200 very astute “foodies” scrutinized their work with flounder, the theme ingredient, making it a very serious competition for the chefs.

Alerus Center to save on financing of turf; UND agrees to pay more than half of $3.83 million cost
The Alerus Center will pay for the replacement of its artificial turf in one year instead of three, saving $99,850 in finance costs. The Events Center Commission has reached an agreement with UND for the university to provide $2 million of the cost of the facility’s new playing surface and related mechanical systems. The commission had planned to finance the $3.83 million project over three years but instead budgeted it all for 2012 in its meeting Wednesday.
