Grand Forks bus ridership to break record 
Bus ridership in the Grand Forks area is on pace to break a record, the city said Friday. With five weeks to go in the year, ridership on Cities Area Transit has already exceeded the total for all of 2011, which set a record at 328,880.

16 counties in northeastern N.D. to get $15 million for roads
Nearly $15 million was distributed to 16 counties in northeastern North Dakota on Friday. The Legislature approved the funding in two bills last year for counties that received less than $500,000 from the oil and gas gross production tax during the 2011 fiscal year. That resulted in a $3.2 million boost to transportation funding in Grand Forks County on Friday, including $1.2 million of highway funding for the city of Grand Forks.

House members of both parties on Monday teed off against the agency in charge of airport and port anti-terrorist screening, saying it uses ineffective tactics, wastes money on faulty equipment and treats travelers rudely. TSA officials told a hearing that airport screening is getting better for U.S. travelers, because the agency is moving away from a one-size-fits-all system. Instead, the TSA is expanding programs to identify travelers posing a risk, while allowing those who provide personal information in advance to go through a fast line.
