Snowmobiles are a common sight on the frozen Red River, but one submerged near Riverside Dam has become an eyesore this summer. It caught the attention of fishing guide Brad Durick before last weekend’s Cats Incredible tournament.
Snowmobilers OK after Saturday spill over Red River dam
Beside some quick-thinking heroism from people out walking in the dazzling white but warm Saturday in East Grand Forks, modifications to Riverside Dam on the Red River years ago likely helped save the lives of two snowmobilers who drove over the dam.
My concern is primarily a matter of public safety. As an anesthesiologist routinely responding to snowmobile-related traumas at Altru’s Emergency Department, I would like to remind Herald readers that snowmobiling can lead to life-threatening injuries. I hope to never respond to a cross-country skier injured due to increased snowmobile traffic along the Greenway.
