Rainy summer continues in N.D., but drought conditions linger in parts of ManitobaIt’s been a rainy summer across the Red River Valley, where some areas have recorded nearly double the normal precipitation since May 1. Just a few hours north of the saturated fields and water-filled ditches of North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, some parts of Manitoba are beginning to feel more like arid deserts than the northern prairie.

Monday rainfall breaks 60-year-old record in Fargo 
Fargo broke a 60-year-old rainfall record on Monday as two storms dumped 2.87 inches of rain at Hector International Airport, the National Weather Service in Grand Forks reported. The total at Hector through Monday morning was 1.15 inches, and the remaining day's rainfall came during a heavy downfall near dusk. The previous rainfall record for Aug. 1 was 1.53 inches in 1951. Records at the airport date back to 1881.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park landslide damage at least $3 million fix
Western N.D. landslide damage part of heavy spring snowmelt runoff, rainIt will cost more than $3 million to repair all spots in the park affected by landslides, Park Superintendent Valerie Naylor said. “With all the moisture over the past years, we have documented 28 places in the North and South units that are compromised due to water logging and such,” she said.
