Minnesota businessman Tom Petters, convicted in December on 20 counts of wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering and conspiracy, is expected to be sentenced to between 30 years and life in prison on March 10.

St. Paul police have two suspects in custody after the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy. The victim has not been identified. Police found him with a gunshot shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday after they responded to a residence on the city’s east side. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Businessman Tom Petters has pleaded not guilty, and attorney Jon Hopeman contended Wednesday in opening statements that Petters was unaware of what his subordinates were doing — partly because of the stabbing death of his son and all the time Petters spent on charitable work.
