All in all, Eatbeat columnist Marilyn Hagerty writes, the new Olive Garden "is the largest and most beautiful restaurant now operating in Grand Forks. It attracts visitors from out of town as well as people who live here."
Olive Garden, located at 3160 32nd Ave. S. near the Columbia Mall, will have its first day of business on Monday, Jan. 23. The restaurant is in a new building on the site of the former Columbia 4 movie theater, which was demolished last summer.
Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday's, CherryBerry also on their way. In addition to the influx of new chain restaurants on the southern end of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks landmark Whitey’s will reopen under new ownership next month.
Grand Forks city leaders approved a liquor license for Olive Garden on Monday, clearing the main obstacle for the restaurant chain to open in town.
The license was unusual because it also required a change in city law, which the council also agreed to do.
