The members of the 191st Military Police Company provided security in and around the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. The 191st is based in Fargo, Bismarck and Mayville.

N.D. works with FEMA to upgrade disaster declaration 
Gov. Jack Dalrymple said today the state will continue working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to upgrade the state’s limited presidential emergency declaration to include a federal cost-share for flood-fighting efforts. Unlike in past years, the declaration does not yet provide guaranteed federal funding in advance to help pay for flood costs.

Soldier retires after 40 years of service in Guard 
While growing up in Vesleyville, not far from Grafton, N.D., Fred Karnik dreamed of flying with the Air Force. He never made it. This fall, he retired after 40 years in the North Dakota Army National Guard, several of them as the Guard’s top aviation post.
