District 20’s Holman to run for re-election to N.D. House
Rep. Rick Holman, D-Mayville, announced Friday he will run for re-election to the North Dakota House. Holman, a retired teacher, farmer and professor who lives on a farm near Mayville, was first elected to the office in 2008.

Mitzel, Mutzenberger enter District 42 N.D. House race
Two more candidates will seek the Republican endorsement to represent District 42 in the North Dakota House. District 42 includes the UND campus and surrounding neighborhoods. The district’s two incumbent representatives are Democrat Corey Mock and Republican Stacey Dahl, who announced Sunday that she would not run for another term.

Grand Forks native Mike Peterson is running to represent District 42 in the North Dakota House, he announced Tuesday. He is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination to run for a spot on the House from District 42, which includes the UND campus and surrounding neighborhoods.

North Dakota lawmakers spent a few moments Wednesday remembering former Republican Senate majority leader Bob Stenehjem. The 59-year-old Stenehjem was killed last August in a traffic accident in Alaska. He was there on a family fishing trip.

'No other option': Grand Forks Sen. Laffen to introduce bill aimed at retiring Fighting Sioux nickname
Sen. Lonnie Laffen, R-Grand Forks, who voted with the majority in March when the North Dakota Senate passed the Fighting Sioux nickname bill, will introduce a measure in the November special legislative session to assign authority over the controversial issue to the State Board of Higher Education. “It would be to allow the state board to do what they wish, retire the name,” Laffen said.
