Minot, N.D., receiving $756,000 housing grant 
The city of Minot will be getting $756,000 in grant funds to help it build additional housing for low-income residents. The funds will be used to purchase land for the Washington Townhomes project, which will provide 64 low-income rental units in southeast Minot. The townhomes will be leased to renters who are at or below 60 percent of the area median income.

A Somali man accused of killing a 19-year-old woman in Minot last year now faces additional charges. The Minot Daily News reports that 27-year-old Omar Mohamed Kalmio now faces three additional charges. He had already been charged with a single count of murder for the slaying of Sabrina Zephier.

A tragedy for Minot was also something of a boon for Minot State University associate professor Mikhail Bobylev and his team of student researchers. Bobylev has spent years researching anti-fungal compounds and last summer’s flood produced many different mold samples for Bobylev and his students to combat.

Rice Lake threatens getaway cabins of Minot, N.D., residents 
Water has been rising at Rice Lake, a popular getaway a few miles southwest of Minot, leaving residents worried about how their lakeside homes will make it through the summer. Several cabins have already flooded, some residents have been forced to move their homes and others have abandoned homes to the rising water, the Minot Daily News reported Saturday.

Minot State copes with flood aftermath 
Marv Semrau, MSU vice president for advancement, said since the flood, the university has worked to provide housing for nearly 500 affected students as well as 120 faculty and employees. The university, like the city’s affected citizens, is trying to bounce back from the flood. Full-time equivalent enrollment in the fall fell to 2,795, a 7 percent drop compared to the year before.

Oil Patch experiences boom in hotel construction 
Hotel construction is up in North Dakota's booming Oil Patch but rooms are still tough to book in some areas. Williston Convention and Visitors Bureau director Amy Krueger says the number of hotel rooms in the city has grown by more than 300 rooms to 934 in the past two years. But she says it's still not enough.
