Event honors N.D. soldiers, Marine killed in Iraq, Afghanistan
Three North Dakotans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan were honored Saturday “to ensure they are forever remembered and thanked for their sacrifice.” About 200 people gathered here at the Memorial to the Fallen in the Global War on Terrorism to pay tribute to the North Dakotans who have died in the war.

The Minnesota State Patrol said an assistant attorney for Dakota County has died of injuries after a traffic accident. The State Patrol said Sheila M. Happe, 47, Apple Valley, Minn., died Friday in a hospital.

A ring-billed gull with a taste for doughnuts has returned for the ninth straight year to the Super 8 motel in Duluth, and he’s brought some friends. Hennepin County prosecutors said four people tried to extort money from a Bloomington man by threatening to reveal his visits to a prostitute. A funeral service for the man was held Saturday, five days after authorities said he committed suicide in a wildlife refuge.

The city of Dickinson, N.D., may change its distribution method for pensions. City Administrator Shawn Kessel said several city workers have retired in the past six months, and nearly a dozen more are becoming eligible. He said it might be the most in the city’s history.

Moorhead man sentenced for crash that killed Pelican Rapids girl
The driver in the April 5, 2008, bus crash along Interstate 94 that killed a Pelican Rapids High School student was sentenced Friday to 30 days in jail, 30 days of house arrest and 30 days of community work service.

St. Paul police have arrested a 59-year-old man accused of stabbing and killing his younger brother. Police said they received a report about 7 a.m. Saturday that a man had been stabbed. When they arrived, they found the victim and suspect inside the home, where they both live.

The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office has identified the three men shot and killed this week at a corner market. The identifications came hours after Minneapolis police said they arrested a 17-year-old boy overnight in connection with the shootings. Police are seeking at least one other suspect. They say the motive remains unclear.
