No crackling of steam radiators disturbed sleepers in the city’s first hotels. The only heat in the rooms came from big stoves in the lobbies, the halls and kitchens. Registers cut through the floors and open doors let the heat into the sleeping rooms.
Guests in winter took off nothing but their shoes in getting ready for bed, one old settler said.
Charges have been filed against a man suspected in two attacks on St. Paul senior citizens. Police on Friday were still looking for Michael L. Pye, 53. Nationwide warrants have been issued for his arrest.
