Man sentenced for illegally capturing eagle in ND 
A 24-year-old Minnesota man accused of illegally capturing a bald eagle in North Dakota has been sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to pay $4,000 to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

Family, fellow farmers gather to harvest Hillsboro man's crop
Leon Bertsch injured his Achilles heel while playing kickball last month during the Hillsboro Days celebration. While recuperating from surgery at home, the 53-year-old died unexpectedly Monday. Neighbors, lots of neighbors, stepped in Sunday, with a caravan of combines and grain trucks that made quick work of Bertsch’s barley.

Crystal planting starts as 2011 slice finale comes
Sugar beet processing season is coming to a close in the Red River Valley, even as the planting season is revving up. Jeff Schweitzer, spokesman for American Crystal Sugar Co. in Moorhead, Minn., said most of the factories are down to processing beets in cold storage sheds. In some cases, the remaining beet storages are equipped with chilling mat covers, with large refrigeration units that can be employed if necessary.

Sanford may partner with Hillsboro hospital

Bolstad opened the wrestling season by overcoming a big deficit to pin Lisbon’s Hunter Mairs. Both wrestlers are now state tournament-bound, Bolstad as the North Dakota Class B No. 1 seed at 152 pounds and Mairs as the No. 2 seed at that weight.

Weekly Hillsboro Banner gets new owner, old editor back
Long-time editor Neil O. Nelson is back in the saddle at the Hillsboro (N.D.) Banner after a change of ownership. He was editor at the Banner for a dozen years until being let go in April. Kelly Ink in Lisbon, which owns several other papers in the state sold it Friday to a partnership called Sub-Zero Press of Hillsboro, which brought Nelson back.
