A 24-year-old Minnesota man accused of illegally capturing a bald eagle in North Dakota has been sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to pay $4,000 to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

A vocal member of the locked-out Bakery Worker’s union has been charged with lying to authorities about an incident between picketers and a female replacement worker at the American Crystal Sugar Co. plant in Hillsboro, N.D.

Authorities say Aaron Reiling, of Halstad, Minn., was trapping without a license and trespassing on private land near Hillsboro in December. A game warden discovered a bald eagle with one leg caught in Reiling's spring trap.

Long-time editor Neil O. Nelson is back in the saddle at the Hillsboro (N.D.) Banner after a change of ownership. He was editor at the Banner for a dozen years until being let go in April. Kelly Ink in Lisbon, which owns several other papers in the state sold it Friday to a partnership called Sub-Zero Press of Hillsboro, which brought Nelson back.

Fargo man sets himself on fire, is saved by Hillsboro police chief 
A Fargo man set his SUV and himself on fire in front of the Trail County Courthouse. The man climbed out the driver-side window and fell to the ground, then Hillsboro Police Chief Ray Weber threw his coat around him, smothering the flames.
