Most people know that many Americans live in poverty, but it can be hard to realize how easy it is to get into that situation or what the average person can do to help. That’s why the Thrivent Builds Mobile, a 67-foot mobile home that re-creates poverty conditions, was in East Grand Forks on Saturday for Art Fest-goers to get a glimpse of what some people go through.
A lot of students talk about being "green." But 18-year-old Mountain View High School student Julia Barnett and other students in the Meridian (Idaho) School District are backing it up with hammers and saws _ and helping a recipient of a Habitat for Humanity home in the process.
My experiences as a board member of the Red River Valley Habitat for Humanity affiliate convinces me that the issue of adequate housing in Grand Forks affects many more of our citizens than is commonly believed.
