EGF City Council: No attempt to override veto of GF-EGF sewage project
The handwriting was on the wall for the majority of East Grand Forks City Council members who wanted to team up with Grand Forks in sewage treatment. So, at Tuesday’s meeting, they didn’t attempt a vote to override Mayor Lynn Stauss’ earlier veto of the wastewater interconnect project.

Local governments grow over 10 years
There are a lot of explanations why, but local governments in and around Grand Forks have grown. The 2012 budgets of the city, the county and the park and school districts, adjusted for inflation, are bigger than they were 10 years ago. Yet the populations they serve have not grown nearly as much, nor, in some cases, has the area’s economy.

County jailer to retire after nearly 23 years
After nearly 23 years working at the Grand Forks County jail, Sgt. Judy Senne has picked up a bit of prison jargon.
“If they’re getting out in a week, they’ll say, ‘I’ve got six days and a wake-up,’” Senne told the Herald on Monday. “So I actually have 12 working days and a wake-up, then I’m retired.”

Census: GF grew 7.1 percent, EGF grew 14.7 percent since 2000
The 2010 Census, released Wednesday, shows Grand Forks grew along with the other bigger cities in North Dakota while many counties lost population, this despite the oil boom in the west where many smaller counties are. There's a political angle, too: Fargo will likely gain seats in the Legislature and Bismarck is getting close.
In Minnesota, a lot of the growth were in suburban counties around the Twin Cities.
