Couple sentenced for theft from ND tribe 
A Fort Totten couple has been sentenced to probation and ordered to pay restitution on federal charges of theft from a tribal organization. U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says a jury found 38-year-old Justin Yankton guilty of the charge in January. Purdon says 29-year-old Brooke Black pleaded guilty to the charge one day after Yankton was found guilty.

Roman Cavanaugh Jr., 36, also must pay $1,488.40 in restitution and a $200 fine to the Crime Victims’ Fund. Cavanaugh pleaded guilty in September for punching his 11- and 12-year-old sons in the face with a closed fist. The older boy also suffered injuries from being choked by Cavanaugh.
