Wind chills to 40 below prompt advisory for region in a.m.; Grand Forks dips to -30 overnight; two northern Minnesota towns hit -46
Extremely cold temperatures had much of northwest Minnesota in a deep freeze this morning, but an extreme cold warning expired at 9 a.m. Additionally, with winds slowly increasing, the entire region will be subject to hazardous wind chills from 30 below to 40 below at some time this morning, the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks said. Roads could be slippery, with up to an inch of snow expected in parts of the region today, including Grand Forks.

Temp hits -30 at Grand Forks airport 
The Grand Forks airport saw 30 below in the last minutes of Thursday and a windchill advisory remains in effect across the region until noon today, although temperatures have risen to above 20 below as clouds moved into the Red River Valley.
Across northern Minnesota, it got to 40 below and worse, the National Weather service said, and remained near that level this morning.
In Baudette, Minn., on Lake of the Woods, it was 36 below at 5 a.m. today, with a wind chill of 52 below. International Falls saw a minus 46.
