At least 3 people charge in northern Minnesota robbery, assault 
At least three people have been charged for their roles in a robbery that allegedly occurred last Wednesday in Cass Lake, Minn. Two victims were allegedly assaulted as they were kicked and struck by fists, a heavy flashlight and a crutch.

Northern Minnesota woman who faked Army service in Afghanistan pleads guilty 
Wearing combat fatigues, Elizabeth McKenzie had been feted in February in a special ceremony in Cass Lake in which the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Honor Guard gave her a blanket and eagle feather to honor her as a female warrior, even though she isn't a tribal member. The gathering included a tribal drum ceremony and a reception line.

Five new homeless shelters opening in rural Minnesota 
The state Department of Human Services has awarded grants to open shelters in Cass Lake, Pine County, Mankato, Faribault and Marshall. At the same time, the department is cutting funding for several Twin Cities programs, including a drop-in center for homeless adults in St. Paul.

Cass Lake, Minn., man charged in ex-girlfriend killing 
Twenty-seven-year-old Ross Littlewolf of Cass Lake is charged with second-degree murder. Prosecutors allege Littlewolf fired a shotgun blast through a sliding glass door to enter the Cass Lake home of 22-year-old Kandace Blaine Dunn and then apparently shot her in the head early Sunday.

Cass Lake, Minn. teen sentenced in stabbing assault 
William Clifford Jones, 17, of Cass Lake, was sentenced Tuesday as an extended jurisdiction juvenile for felony first-degree assault with a dangerous weapon causing great bodily harm. On Dec. 15 in Cass Lake, Jones stabbed a youth in the chest nearly killing him.

Cass Lake man sentenced to 60 months for felony firearm possession 
Eric Lee Budreau, 27, of Cass Lake, Minn., was found guilty Nov. 4 by a Cass County jury of felony possession of a pistol by a person previously convicted of a crime of violence and felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 60 months in prison Monday, Dec. 27, for one count of felony possession of a firearm. He is being held in the Crow Wing County Jail.

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reported this afternoon that Jeffrey Scott Donnell, 18, of Cass Lake, was airlifted to a Duluth hospital Wednesday with a stab wound to the chest.
