Q and A: Brand-new shocks likely not source of 'clunk' 
QUESTION: I accidentally backed my 2004 Buick LeSabre into a concrete curb on the passenger side. While driving home, I heard a loud "clunk-clunk-clunk" at every bump in the road. My local shop inspected the undercarriage, said the shocks were leaking and replaced them.

Lois Wilde, Grand Forks, letter: Inadequate bus service makes poor alternative 
The bus will not take me where I must go. It drops me off nowhere near my eye clinic, blocks from the Grand Forks Public Library and Grand Cities Mall and clear across campus from attractions such as the North Dakota Museum of Art. (Speaking of the library: I really don’t care where the new library is built, as long as the bus will stop at the front door.)

GM’s July sales rose 2.6 percent from the previous month and 5 percent from July of last year. Ford said its sales from June to July were flat, but were up 3 percent compared with July last year.

ST. PAUL — Heavy snow is believed to have caused a ceiling to collapse at Maplewood Mall in St. Paul. Chad Capp, vice president of Shock Cellular, told KSTP-TV that a large piece of drywall dropped 25 feet on a kiosk Saturday morning. He believes it was because of heavy snow on the roof.

Two suspects arrested in slaying of missing girl from Mitchell, S.D. 
Two suspects were arrested Thursday for the murder of Jasmine Guevara, 16, Mitchell, S.D. Authorities identified the suspects as Alexander Salgado, 20, and a 15-year-old girl whose name is being withheld. Both originated from Fort Wayne, Ind., authorities said, but were living recently in Mitchell.

A Grand Forks man has been sentenced for burglarizing Walsh County, N.D., farmsteads and stealing a cash machine from a convenience store in Minto,, N.D. Gregory Nordrum was ordered to spend two years behind bars and three years on supervised probation. He also was ordered to pay restitution and $1,100 in fines and fees. The amount of restitution will be determined later.
