Report urges stronger anti-bullying law in Minnesota 
The Prevention of School Bullying Task Force recommended Wednesday that lawmakers repeal the state's current anti-bullying law and replace it with a stronger law. The suggestion came in a report to Gov. Mark Dayton, who convened the 15-member group last year.

Two dozen school systems did not meet the July 1 deadline for turning in school bullying policies as ordered by state law.
The Department of Public Instruction received 205 policies before the deadline and received Dickinson Catholic Schools’ policy on Monday for a total of 206, said Val Fischer, director of safe and healthy schools.

Justice Department hails Minnesota school settlement 
The Anoka-Hennepin School Board agreed Monday night to strengthen the district's efforts to prevent sex-based harassment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Brooker told reported during a conference call Tuesday that several provisions that are part of the settlement shouldn't cost much for other school districts to adapt, such as conducting anti-bullying surveys; creating a committee of students, parents and teachers to discuss what's working and what's not; identifying "hot spots" on school grounds and on buses that need better supervision; and peer leadership training.

Ontario boy, 13, acquitted in bullying case of boy, 11, who committed suicide 
The accused boy was acquitted today in Oshawa, Ont., on charges of assault causing bodily harm and robbery. Police had alleged the suspect slammed Mitchell Wilson's face into the sidewalk and stole his iPhone in Pickering in November 2010. Wilson suffered from multiple dystrophy.

Head of Anoka-Hennepin school district refines statement on suicides 
Six students in the Anoka-Hennepin School District committed suicide in less than two years. Family members and gay advocacy groups said some were bullied. In December 2010, Superintendent Dennis Carlson said there was no evidence bullying played a role in any of the deaths.
