A Fort Totten, N.D., man charged with killing a bald eagle has been sentenced to 10 months of work release and three years of probation.
James Robertson Sr., 44, pleaded guilty in June to unlawful taking of a bald eagle, unlawful sale of a migratory bird and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A Fort Totten, N.D., man has been charged with killing a bald eagle and selling it to his brother, who also is facing prosecution.
James Robertson, 44, is accused of taking the eagle on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation late last year, and Kim Lee Robertson, 51, is accused of buying it, a federal indictment states.
It was a great week for eagles. Herald photographer Jackie Lorentz encountered six bald eagles near the mouth of the Red Lake River. Her picture of two eagles was in Wednesday’s paper. Reports of eagles came from many other watchers. All this supports the assertion that bald eagles are back.
