The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced Thursday it will provide grants to state veteran service agencies and organizations to help give free transportation for rural veterans to VA medical centers and facilities providing VA care.

A few days ago, the Republican-controlled North Dakota House of Representatives passed a spending resolution that reflects its priorities. At 4:40 a.m. when the gavel fell, the vote was 235-189 for the bill that would slash at least $61 billion from federal programs and agencies.
Not one Democrat voted for it, and three Republicans opposed it as well.
At the sprawling Minneapolis Veterans Medical Center, the women’s care center is tucked away in a corner of the fourth floor, accessible only through hallways filled with men. Until a recent remodeling, the exam rooms faced out into the hallways.
Fargodome officials say last month’s Bon Jovi concert helped put the facility’s finances back on track. The rock group drew 21,800 fans and netted the Fargodome $160,332, which was $90,608 more than budgeted.

A North Dakota veterans group wants the state attorney general to rule that the state treasurer does not have sole control over $450,000 in Veterans Post War Trust Fund assets the group has for years considered its reserve fund.
Ranking 10th in a state report of needed veterans facilities means a hard sell ahead for supporters of a northern Minnesota Veterans Home in Beltrami County. “There has to be a convergence of the political will and the public will for this to happen,” Beltrami County Commissioner Joe Vene said.
