The UND women’s soccer team finished its first season in the Big Sky Conference 0-9 in the league and 2-13-1 overall. Only a few days after the team’s final game of the season, the school has announced it will not renew the contract of head coach Kristen Gay.
Cassie Black recorded a hat trick for Eastern Washington as the Eagles cruised by UND here Friday. Eastern Washington improved to 5-6-2 overall (2-2-1 in Big Sky play) while UND dropped to 2-8-1 (0-4).
UND freshman forward Megan Anderson scored twice and freshman goaltender Kristi Hestdalen recorded a shutout as the Sioux beat Howard on Friday in the Great West Conference quarterfinals.
UND advanced to the semifinals to play top-seeded Utah Valley at 1:30 p.m. today.
Like most athletic programs at UND, it’s hard for the Sioux women’s soccer team to not look ahead to the 2012-13 season — the school’s first in the Big Sky Conference. But the focus this week is on the Great West Conference tournament, which begins Friday in Newark, N.J. And the Sioux want their last appearance as a Great West member to be memorable.
Wolverines score into gusts of more than 50 miles per hour to top UND Wind gusts of more than 50 miles per hour Friday at Bronson Field — the home of UND women’s soccer — were enough to momentarily knock out power next door at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Those breezy conditions still weren’t enough to hold back Natalie Young and Utah Valley.
Bowling Green has accepted an invitation to join the Western Collegiate Hockey Association beginning in 2013-14. Bowling Green currently plays in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, which will disband in two years.
