Children enjoy Winter Wanders at Turtle River State Park
Mother Nature rewarded a dozen children and their families gathered Saturday afternoon for an outdoor event with clear skies and calm winds. Winter Wanders, a park program, educated the kids how to use the bounty of the woods to create works of art.

A meeting scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Turtle River State Park will be an open forum on adding paved trails. As a year-around user of the park for almost two decades, I have observed increasing deforestation, as trails are unnecessarily widened and more green space is paved.

Lack of snow won’t stop Turtle River Winter Fest
The fourth annual Winter Fest at Turtle River State Park near Arvilla, N.D., will go on as planned Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., although some activities will be modified because there’s no snow.

Woman risks life for her dogs
Sue Twedt’s lively game of fetch in the Turtle River with her two dogs almost turned deadly. Twedt was standing calf-deep in the Turtle River east of the Turtle River State Park dam, throwing sticks to Hagrid, her Great Dane, and Mudge, her Labradoodle, on June 19 when both animals disappeared, she said.
