Ben Vorderbruggen’s step-grandmother, Darlene Gerbracht, 64, died after being shot by her son, Jack, 41. The two died in Darlene’s Bagley home Monday night, according to police. Jack, who lived less than two blocks from his mother, killed himself after shooting Darlene.

The North Dakota Legislature is approaching its midsession break in a couple of weeks and lawmakers are busy introducing and finishing voting on bills in their respective chambers. And many of the major spending bills are still being considered this week in House and Senate appropriations committees as the session heads to "crossover."
The most extensive study yet by the U.S. government on suicide among military veterans shows more veterans are killing themselves than previously thought, with 22 deaths a day — or one every 65 minutes, on average.
Every day about 22 veterans in the United States kill themselves, a rate that is about 20 percent higher than the Department of Veterans Affairs' 2007 estimate, according to two-year study by a VA researcher.
