In front of a packed Purpur Arena crowd, Senior High beat Grand Forks Red River 3-2 in a shootout to win the Herald Jason Stadstad Hockey Classic in a game that lived up to its billing as a showdown between top teams in North Dakota and Minnesota.
The East Grand Forks Senior High baseball team looked like anything but a newcomer.
In the first rivalry game between Senior High and East Grand Forks Sacred Heart, it was the first-year Green Wave program that dominated the traditionally strong Eagles on Thursday.
Grand Forks Red River baseball coach Mark Varriano is encouraged that his team’s hitting is finally catching up to its solid pitching.
“When that happens, we can be a pretty decent team,” Varriano said.
And on Thursday, the Roughriders proved it also doesn’t hurt to have a little luck.
