The four remaining defendants in a Bakken oil leasing scam that duped unwitting investors across the country out of hundreds of thousands of dollars were found guilty on most charges on Wednesday by a Montana jury.
Police say an elderly Devils Lake man lost approximately $50,000 in a sweepstakes scam. The man, who is in his 80s, made several payments over the past few months to the phony company after being notified that he had won a “U.S. Sweepstakes” prize of $48.5 million.
The Grand Forks Senior Center is alerting area seniors about a possible scam.
A man has been calling seniors identifying himself as with the Senior Center, asking the people if he can come to their home to offer assistance.
The Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota warns consumers that asphalt scam artists are trying to rustle up jobs. Dickey's Barbecue Pit is opening in Grand Forks June 21. Northstar Agri Industries' plant in Kittson County says it's reached capacity.
