Dennis Lamarr Dagen
Dennis Lamarr Dagen of Warroad, MN passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the age of 86. Dennis was born April 29, 1927 to Erwin and Helen Dagen on a farm in Kittson County, MN. He attended a one room country school until high school. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy at age 17 on August 15, 1944. He served in World War II on the USS Curtis and USS Norton Sound in Shanghai, China and in Okinawa in 1945 when the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan. Dennis was baptized by a U. S. Navy Chaplain while on ship. He was honorably discharged on June 19, 1946. He returned to his home town of Karlstad, MN and attended high school. He enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Forces on March 13, 1948 and was attached to the 1503rd Military Air Transport Service. He served in Tokyo, Japan and when he returned home on leave, married Joan May Carlson on April 12, 1949. While stationed in Tokyo, the Korean War began. His assignment included off loading wounded soldiers for transport to the hospital. When not on duty, he boxed and was 1949 heavyweight champion for pacific services. He also coached boxing and basketball teams and enjoyed being a referee. Dennis was assigned to serve in South Korea, Guam, the Philippines, and Thailand and returned to Okinawa for his final years in the Air Force. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on September 1, 1966. During his military service, Dennis received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). In February 1967, Dennis joined the Roseau County Sheriff’s Department as Deputy in Warroad, MN. Many people in the community can attest that he fairly and efficiently enforced the law. Also, he became an avid golfer and enjoyed his time on the course with his sons and the “Rat Pack”. He retired as Deputy in February 1984.

Arnold Walter Juenke
Arnold Walter Juenke, age 79 of Crystal, ND, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Arnold was born December 25, 1933 in Grafton, ND to Walter and Meta (Schmidt) Juenke. He grew up and attended schools in the Crystal area where he graduated from high school. He then attended NDSU for a short time before returning home to farm with his father and uncle. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1959. Following his discharge, he returned home and was united in marriage to Betty Vatnsdal on October 26, 1963 in Grafton. The couple lived and farmed west of Crystal for many years before retiring.

Anna M. Loe
Anna M. Loe, 85, of Manvel, ND passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at her home. Anna Mae Mangan was born July 4, 1927 at the family farm near Lamoure, ND the daughter of William Edward and Mabel Theresa (Peterson) Mangan. She attended high school in LaMoure and Valley City State College. Anna married Amber Kjell Loe on July 19, 1946 in LaMoure. They lived in Tolna, ND, Michigan, ND, Grand Forks, ND and finally Manvel, ND. She was a American Legion Auxiliary member for 36 consecutive years, a Homemaker member and a 4-H leader for many years. Anna was employed with Century 21 Realty, H &R Block and was a bookkeeper for Farmers Union Oil Company in both Michigan and Grand Forks. She and Amber traveled and spent time with their children and grandchildren scattered across the country. Anna enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening, hunting, playing Bridge, and Pinochle. Amber preceded her in death on August 27, 2007.

William Owen "Bill" Crane
William Owen "Bill" Crane, age 78, of rural Eldred, MN, and a former longtime Crookston, MN resident and businessman, died Thursday afternoon, May 16, 2013, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Bill was born on March 21, 1935 at Winona, MN, the son of William and Otelia (Quamme) Crane. As an infant he moved with his family to Crookston, where he grew up and graduated from Central High School in 1953. After graduation he worked for Northern Plumbing, while also enlisting in the Minnesota National Guard and serving from 1953-61. On July 25, 1959 Bill was united in marriage to Marilyn Yvonne Mellom at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. He later began working for Associated Plumbing, and in 1965 established his own business, Crane Plumbing and Heating. With Marilyn at his side, Bill operated his very successful business until 1990. For the next five years he served as Maintenance Supervisor for American Crystal Sugar in Crookston, before becoming Field Supervisor for Industrial Contract Services of Grand Forks. Very sadly, Marilyn passed away on August 16, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Bill retired from ICS in 2012 due to his own declining health. Bill was very active in the Trinity Lutheran Church, and also held memberships and offices, past and present, in the Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, UMC Athletic Boosters, Pirate Boosters, Blue Line Club, Eagles Aerie, Masonic Lodge, and Kem Temple Shrine. His favorite pastimes included bowling, golfing, hunting, and fishing, and during their forty-eight year marriage he and Marilyn enjoyed world travel. Keeping pace with the activities of their children and granddaughters was the greatest joy of all. Loving family members include Bill's son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Brenda Crane of Crookston, MN; daughter, Diane Crane, and her special friend, Rick Halverson, of Minneapolis, MN; three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Caitlin (fiance', Max LaCoursiere), and Madison Crane; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Lois Miller of Oxbow, Sask., Canada, Carole and Bill Nelson of East Grand Forks, MN, and Ralph Mellom of Greenville, SC; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to Marilyn, his beloved wife of forty-eight years, Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother.
