Social media recently went feral with the announcement of Ben Affleck as the new Batman. I’ll admit I was a part of this rabid mob. After much thought and discussion I have rebuffed slightly. The news got me thinking about all of the different actors to don the Bat cowl.
In the end, Hollywood made it through a precarious minefield of summer box-office bombs with a heftier wallet. The summer concluded with a record $4.7 billion in box-office revenue despite much maligned flops like "The Lone Ranger," 'After Earth" and "White House Down."
With $44.8 million in domestic ticket sales Friday through Sunday, the animated sequel "Despicable Me 2" outdid the debuts of the Adam Sandler comedy "Grown Ups 2" and director Guillermo del Toro's monsters-versus-robots action flick "Pacific Rim."
"Grey's Anatomy" star Patrick Dempsey may be the real "McSteamy." Dempsey won a bankruptcy auction to buy Tully's Coffee, a small coffee chain based in Seattle. Among those he beat out is Tully's much bigger Seattle neighbor, Starbucks Corp.

Five days after making a surprise visit to the TNT Diner in West Fargo, award-winning actor and director Tom Hanks tweeted on Wednesday to his more than 4.7 million followers that the diner makes a “killer breakfast.”
Occidental College is perhaps best known as the school once attended by President Obama. But the private liberal arts school also is making a name for itself as a hotbed for filming, thanks to its classic college look, proximity to Hollywood and aggressive courting of the film industry.
Andrew Lander, a comic book geek in his youth, wore the Spider-Man suit in the recently released “The Amazing Spider-Man” movie. A waiter the last four years, he now hopes having Spider-Man in his resume will help him get that big break he’s been waiting for.
