FARGO — Bethany Ivesdal stole the show. Literally.
The junior’s free throw with 1 minute and 27 seconds remaining gave Thompson its first lead. Then Ivesdal twice stole passes in the final 46 seconds, helping the Tommies preserve a 58-52 win against New Town on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota state Class B girls high school basketball tournament.
Riley Lillemoen knew it wasn’t exactly a win-win situation for him when he took over as Grafton High School’s boys head basketball coach.
If the team wins, then he’s carried on the foundation laid by Mike Hanson, who resigned from the position last July. If the team struggles, then it’s on Lillemoen’s shoulders.
“It is what it is,’’ Lillemoen said. “I don’t feel any pressure."
Jeff Loe has seen a lot of outstanding female athletes during his 20 years at Thief River Falls Lincoln High School. However, Loe can’t recall a collection of girls athletes that has been better than the current Prowlers.
