The Lions waited for two decades, but on Saturday night Minot Ryan once again claimed a North Dakota Class B girls basketball state championship.
No. 1-ranked Minot Ryan defeated No. 8-ranked Central Cass 54-50 at the Fargodome. It is the Lions’ second state title in school history.
Junior guard Karleigh Weber drained a 3-pointer with one second remaining Saturday at the Fargodome. That clutch shot lifted Thompson to a 54-53 victory against Napoleon for third place at the North Dakota Class B state girls basketball tournament.
FARGO — Bethany Ivesdal stole the show. Literally.
The junior’s free throw with 1 minute and 27 seconds remaining gave Thompson its first lead. Then Ivesdal twice stole passes in the final 46 seconds, helping the Tommies preserve a 58-52 win against New Town on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota state Class B girls high school basketball tournament.
Fast start or slow — ultimately, it didn’t make a difference for Grand Forks Red River. The Roughriders’ season ended here Friday with a 62-56 loss to Mandan in the consolation semifinal round of the North Dakota Class A girls high school basketball tournament.
