Leslie Frazier announced a change in starting quarterbacks Wednesday for the fourth time in 13 games. And that doesn't count the number of weeks the Minnesota Vikings coach weighed his starting options and stuck with the inconsistent Christian Ponder.
The list of applicants to become UND’s next head football coach grew again Tuesday, a week before the application deadline. UND has received 41 applications to take over the position held by Chris Mussman for the past six seasons.
The season at one point was heading south when Furman was 2-4 with injuries mounting. Once October rolled around, the Paladins started heading north. And they haven’t stopped. It’s to the point this week that they are traveling way north — the team from Greenville, S.C., will play at North Dakota State on Saturday in the second round of the FCS playoffs.
The North Dakota State football coaches took a poll of sorts last week on their best guess to which NDSU’s opponent on Saturday would be: Furman College (S.C.) or South Carolina State. The result was unanimous with Furman. The coaches were right.
Underwood, the little team that could, couldn’t Friday. The Rockets – representing a town of less than 400 – fell to the Superlarks 28-6 in the Minnesota Class 9-man state title game. It was the Rockets’ first-ever appearance in the state title game.
UND remains without a head football coach, a position that won’t be filled until at least Dec. 11. But applications for the position created when Chris Mussman was relieved of his duties on Nov. 18 are beginning to mount.
Herald writers Brad Elliott Schlossman, Tom Miller and Wayne Nelson talk about UND's busy week in sports, including men's basketball's win over NDSU, the football coaching search, the outlook for men's hockey and volleyball chasing an NCAA berth.
The Newtown, Connecticut, high school football team completed an undefeated regular season on Tuesday that players and coaches had dedicated to the victims of last December's massacre at the town's Sandy Hook Elementary School.
After a perfect season ended with a state championship, Cavalier has placed four players on the North Dakota 9-man high school all-state football team.
Cavalier, which went 11-0, landed Ryan Chrest at defensive back, Jeff Stith at offensive line and Brock Robbins at running back on the first team and lineman Justin Gibson on the second team.
The second season for the North Dakota State football team started on Sunday with a not-so-surprising announcement from the NCAA. The Bison were tabbed as the No. 1 overall seed in the Division I FCS playoffs.
