Upon arriving for work Monday, I braced myself. The reason was that Saturday’s Herald included my story about a Grafton, N.D., man who has been on 11 big game hunts in Africa. Since trophy hunting can be an emotional issue, I anticipated calls, mail and emails from critics and defenders. As expected, hordes of readers filled my various inboxes. But they weren’t reacting to the story about the 40-plus animal mounts. Instead, they were seeking details about the winning recipe at Saturday’s tater tot hotdish contest in Finley, N.D.
Lisa Jacobson’s tater tot legend grew larger here Saturday. For the third time in its five years, the Luverne, N.D., woman won the highly coveted tater tot hotdish crown at The Press Box tavern’s annual contest.
Amber Nelson and her husband Brett recently won an all-inclusive Caribbean trip – valued at more than $6,000 – from the singer’s “14 Days of Forever Love” contest. Amber's from Fertile, Minn.; Brett, a National Guardsman and Iraq war vet, is from Cavalier, N.D.
National contest earns flooded Oak Park $100,000

America Is Your Park hopes to restore land for outdoor activities Minot’s Oak Park was devastated by floodwaters and putting the park back together is going to take some work and some money. Good thing Oak Park is currently first in the running for a $100,000 grant.
It’s official, at least in the eyes of online voters: Fargo is “America’s Toughest Weather City.” The Weather Channel announced Friday morning that Fargo beat Bradford, Pa., to win the 64-city tournament.
