JIMMY JABBER Flood proved worth of electronic media
Duluth was treated to Mother Natures softer side during Grandmas Marathon weekend so much so that the News Tribune pointed it out in the headline of a follow-up story Monday.

My mom, Marilyn Hagerty, now seems destined to be remembered forever as the lady who wrote that review of the Olive Garden — “a masterpiece of polite restaurant criticism,” as Advertising Age called it.
"Because the restaurant was the Olive Garden," reporter Dave Kolpack writes, "Marilyn Hagerty's earnest assessment swiftly became an Internet sensation, drawing comments both sincere and sarcastic from food bloggers and others. For the 85-year-old Hagerty, the response was bewildering — and it threatened to make her late for a bridge game."
GF base couple will again attend Super Bowl
A year ago, Jennifer Peavey won an all-expenses-paid trip to the Super Bowl in a blackout bingo game at Grand Forks Air Force Base.
This year, it was her husband, Jay, who won an Air Force promotion to attend the big game. A bonus this year - they're Green Bay fans.

Barn swallows have nested on two separate buildings, and they seem to be competing for air space. They’ve certainly become more determined to guard their own territories. Both broods have hatched, but the young are still confined to nests. Perhaps, that explains the adult birds’ aggressive behavior toward passing birds, cats and people. We have a third pair of swallows. These are cliff swallows who have built on to a nest that still another pair of barn swallows abandoned earlier in the season.
Stability makes for dull politics — unless someone suggests shaking things up. That’s what Gov. John Hoeven did last week, when he suggested he might challenge U.S. Sen. Byron Dorgan after all. He’ll decide in the fall, Hoeven said. Such a contest would be a clash of titans, just the fix that political junkies seek. Alas, it is not likely to happen.
We were delighted when they set a relish tray before us at the Farmer Dell Steakhouse & Lounge on a recent Saturday night. You just don’t find that much anymore. And if you do, the relish tray is skimpier than it used to be.
