A bridge will be dedicated Tuesday night to former Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton. The Minneapolis bridge, which carries Third Avenue South over Interstate 94, will be dedicated as the "Sharon Sayles Belton Bridge."
MnDOT says the material is being distributed at its Oakdale facility from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Legislation passed this year specifies who's eligible for the steel and MnDOT says it's contacted most of those people and groups.
In a few weeks, Minnesota Department of Transportation officials will begin parceling out tons of steel from the Interstate 35W bridge, which collapsed during rush hour on Aug. 1, 2007, killing 13 people and injuring 145 others.
A public discussion of options for renovating or rebuilding the Kennedy Bridge between Grand Forks and East Grand Forks has been scheduled July 17 in both cities, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
A truck hauling a too-tall load of drilling equipment hit an overhead bridge girder on the major interstate between Seattle and Canada, sending a section of the span and two vehicles into the Skagit River. All three occupants suffered only minor injuries.
