So far, so good for Grand Forks Red River. Grand Forks Red River cleared two more hurdles in another run at a state boys tennis championship Thursday as the Riders breezed through the first two rounds of the North Dakota State tournament.
Greg Wischer is a few teammates away from a perfect record in his high school tennis career. The Grand Forks Red River junior takes a 23-0 record into the North Dakota state tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday in Fargo. That has improved Wischer’s career mark to 124-4.
This season, Round 1 goes to Greg Wischer. The Grand Forks Red River junior beat teammate Joey Anderson 6-3, 7-6 (6) to win the East Region singles title in Fargo. It was a rematch of last year’s East Region and state championship, both won by Anderson.
The streak of consecutive North Dakota East Region boys tennis team dual championships won by Grand Forks Red River now stands at 18.
The Roughriders defeated West Fargo 5-0 during the championship match on Thursday at Courts Plus.
